Scrapbooking is Healing

Scrapbooking is Healing

Scrapbooking is another means of self expression that holds with it a unique theraputic healing power. Scrapbooking can be very relaxing, can ignite, energize, and inspire the imagination, can build self esteem, and helps ease the pain that comes with grieving for the loss of a loved one. At times, past reflection can stir emotions of pain and loss. However, it is this type of pain that brings forth healing, peace, and restoration. Scrapbooking is healing not only to the person creating the book but also can generate healing within other members of the family. It can help inspire others as well. Anytime you are focusing your energy on a self expressive project, you are doing something positive for yourself and most likely others you choose to share it with.

Whether you are suffering stresses of unemployment, chronic illness, or cancer, The "Scrapbooking is Healing" concept has been proven and embraced over the last century by doctors and psychologist, as an effective tool to improve health and achieve healing of the body, mind and spirit.

What is Scrapbooking?

Scrapbooking is a method used for preserving a legacy in the form of photographs, printed media, and memorabilia in decorated albums, or scrapbooks. It is telling a story of YOU and your FAMILY. It is something created that MONEY can not buy. It's your treasured moments with your family and friends. Most importantly, scrapbooking is healing, a method of self expression, and priceless. We all need a form of self expression in order to be happy and healthy.

How to Scrapbook

There are no hard and fast rules to scrapbooking. That is the beauty of it. It is totally your expression, your creativity, your imagination that goes into it. I can tell you that some prefer pages where the photograph is the central element and embellishments are minimally applied. Others include a variety of embellishments to add to the design. It is completely up to you. You can create stunning designs no matter which method you choose.

Embellishments may include memorable ticket stubs from the theater, spicey little love notes from that special someone, newspaper clippings, stickers, etc. You may also want to include such things as quilling, decorative die cuts, or dried and artificial flowers. I would suggest starting out with one to three photos and then decorating and embellishing the page. Get creative with it. Let your imagination soar and have fun with it.

Basic "Scrapbooking" tools Include:

       Acid-free and lignin-free papers
       Acid-free tape
       Acid-free glue
       Archival marker or pen
       Scissors, or some cutting instrument
       Photographs
AND most importantly the scrapbook or album

Scrapbooking can be very easy to anyone who wants to give it a try. It has become very popular and there are many resources available for the amateur and professional scrapbooker. I would personally suggest Create for Less or Mr. Art Supplies. Both have a wide selection to choose from and seem to run special deals on scrapbooking materials pretty often.

Take your time and look around to make sure you make the proper album selection that is unique to you. Have fun and enjoy the "Scrapbooking is Healing" experience. Oh and remember, LACK OF EXPRESSION IS A COMPROMISING OF THE SELF. Everyone should have a means of self expression in order to remain happy and healthy.
